Four pedagogical awards for teaching Several-variable Calculus in 2018 at Uppsala University

  • May 2018: F-lärarutmärkelsen from the students at the Master Program in Engineering Physics.

    Motivering:

    Hania undervisar med stor glädje och lyckas skapa goda förutsättningar för studenterna lära sig flervariabelanalysen. Hon är väldigt villig att anpassa sin undervisning efter studenternas önskemål, något hon tydligt visade efter mittkursvärderingen. Med bra och pedagogiska föreläsningar och välstrukturerat material på studentportalen ger hon studenterna goda möjligheter till att lära sig och fördjupa sig i kursinnehållet. Hon för en bra dialog med sina studenter genom att hela tiden dela med sig av svar på frågor som ställs, även om de ställs utanför undervisningstid.
  • Bakgrund:

    Varje år delar föreningen Uppsala tekniska fysiker ut F-lärarutmärkelsen. Det är ett pris som går till en lärare, föreläsare eller labbhandledare vid tekniska fysiker programmet i Uppsala, som utmärkt sig pedagogiskt och varit framstående i sin undervisning. Studenterna i F-programmet har haft möjlighet att skicka in nomineringar och sedan har en jury utsett en vinnare.

  • May 2018: Det elektrotekniska pedagogiska priset from the students at the Master Program in Electrical Engineering.

    Motivering:

    Hania Uscka-Wehlou har tilldelats priset för sin insats som lärare för de studenter som studerar på de elektrotekniska programmen vid Uppsala Universitet. Tilldelningen beslutades genom omröstning av medlemmarna på E-sektionen.

    Hania har uppvisat god pedagogik och stort intresse till studenternas inlärning. Med tydlig struktur i föreläsningarna uppföljt med utförliga anteckningar och dokumentation har studenterna gets goda förutsättningar att tillgodoses sig kursinnehåll. Att där till snabbt och utförligt svara på skriftliga frågor har hon bidragit till att studenter känt sig sedda och att deras personliga inlärning är av betydande.

    Hania är en inspirationskälla och ett föredöme för pedagogisk undervisning.

    Motivering:

    Hania Uscka-Wehlou upplevs gå den extra milen för att se till att alla studenter förstår materialet och att det finns flera alternativ för inlärning. Tar åt sig kritik på ett riktigt bra sätt och försöker kontinuerligt att bli bättre. Som föreläsare är hon riktigt pedagogisk, strukturerad och uppmuntrande på alla sätt.

  • December 2018: UTN:s pedagogiska pris from the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students at Uppsala University.

    Motivering:

    "Hania Uscka-Wehlou har endast jobbat som föreläsare på TekNat-fakulteten i drygt 1 år men har redan gjort ett avtryck både i studenternas studiemotivation och hjärtan.

    Hon tilldelades uppgiften att ta över en sedan tidigare ökänd kurs och förvånade fakultetens studenter när de upptäckte att kursen både gjorts intressant och förståelig. Hania strukturerade upp kursen, satte upp en tydlig planering och tog fram välformulerade mål som gjorde det lätt för studenterna att hänga med.

    Genom att hänvisa till flertalet informationskällor, tillgängliggöra mängder av material och själv alltid finnas tillgänglig skapade hon möjligheten för alla studenter att ta till sig kursmaterialet på det sätt som passade dem bäst.

    Hania är inte rädd för att visa sin personlighet och kärlek för undervisning, hon uppmuntrade sina studenter att ställa både stora och små frågor och anpassade kursen kontinuerligt efter studenternas önskemål och kritik. Vid examination rättade Hania inte bara uppgifter utan la även ner tid på att återkoppla och ge utvecklingstips.

    Hania har visat stort engagemang som föreläsare och med ovanstående motivering tilldelas Hania Uscka-Wehlou Uppsala teknolog- och naturvetarkårs pedagogiska pris 2018."

Education

  • 1992-97: University of Torun (Copernicus University), Poland, masters degree in theoretical mathematics with teaching qualifications. Diploma officially approved as equivalent (or more) to a Belgian "Licentiaat Wiskunde" with "Pedagogische kwalificatie", and thus automatically approved in all European Community countries. Thesis: "Continuation method for contractions and applications in differential calculus". Graduated with top honors.
  • 2003-2009 (of which almost 19 months, 7/6/2005 - 1/1/2007, on maternity leave): Ph.D. from Uppsala University, Sweden. Thesis: "Digital lines, Sturmian words, and continued fractions" defended on 25 September 2009.

Languages

  • Fluent in Polish, Swedish, Dutch, English and Russian (well, in the latest one I am not so fluent any more...). Planning to learn French (or Italian, or maybe Spanish - I love them all!).

  • Autumn 2000, Complexe getallen (Complex numbers, in Dutch), an interactive Mathematica notebook designed, programmed and written by me during my work for the Exploot project (led by Professor Ivan Cnop) at the Flemish University of Brussels, Belgium. The notebook has been used as teaching material for Dutch speaking students. It can be found on the home page of Exploot (you have to click on "Fourier en complexe analyse" left on the page, then click on "complexe getallen" left on the next page).
